There’ll be a new voice reporting on the events of the upcoming Rugby World Cup in New Zealand later this year.
Phillip Heath of Northland News in Whangarei has been awarded full media accreditation and we wanted to take a moment to congratulate him on this and for the great work he’s been doing on northnews.co.nz.
Well done Phil!

Locally Informed Changes!
Our apologies for being so quiet lately. We’ve been hard at work on some big changes and we’d like to tell you all about them!
From the outset, Locally Informed has been about empowering and connecting communities by equiping journalists(our community editors) in new ways to independently report on local news and information.
It’s also been about developing a local news business model that doesn’t rely on advertising sales or monthly subscriptions.
Our goals haven’t changed, but the way we’re going about them has changed dramatically.
Here’s what we’ve done…
![]()
Locally Informed as a Platform
From here on out, you run the show!
We’ve realized that it’s not about us managing every community, but rather about enabling you to do just that.
No one’s better qualified than a passionate journalist, in their own community!
Going forward, we’ll give you all the tools, and you’ll go out and make it happen.
You report the news. You manage your community and the readers who contribute to it. You get the revenue generated by it.
For our part, we continue to build on and improve the software. We provide the online payment solutions and hosting.
Your local site becomes a turn key solution, where all you need to do is start building your community and reporting on it.
Our revenue is then tied into your own. We’ll charge a monthly fee to host the software and a modest percentage on each transaction, to cover both administration costs and the fees charged by the 3rd party credit card processing company.
If this email has sparked your interest, give it a try for 30 days at no cost.

Feedback
|
Here’s what Phil had to say after about a week of using the new platform… I am absolutely delighted with the number of ‘hits’ my stories are getting on northnews! More than I received previously. I think having a dedicated site for Northland news is steering people to it because they appear to know that this is the site where they can get get their news about Northland. Really thrilled. |

Recently we’ve been asked to clarify parts of the Marketplace and how they work. So, we thought we’d take a step back and see if we could help to clear things up a little.
After some careful thought, we decided to make a few important changes. We hope you’ll take a look.
Wondering who will see your listing?
We may just be getting started, but we’re keen to see you find solutions!
We’re going out of our way to promote each new Marketplace listing both on and off the website, ensuring your listing gets in front of loads of people.
What is Crowdsourcing?
Jeff Howe defines Crowdsourcing as, “the act of taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people in the form of an open call.”
Locally Informed harnesses the power of crowdsourcing and applies it at a local level.
Latest Challenge
Our latest Challenge is a search for Co-Working Office Space in Hastings.
Suggest shared office space in Hastings and make 10 bucks if your suggestion gets chosen.

The Real Estate page of Locally Informed, found here, will:
- Save you time when searching for a new house
- Help keep you informed of what’s going up for sale around you.
How will it do that? Let’s take a closer look.
Real Estate is listed in two columns. The first are Residential properties. The second, Lifestyle & Rural.
Each list is made up of the most recent, continously updated, search results of local real estate listings, from only the locations that you have chosen.
The latest listings are shown first and listings that have come up that day are marked in bold green letters: Listed Today
If you’re looking for a new house, you’re likely looking online every day to find the most recent listings. Multiple websites, and having to filter each time.
Here’s a place where you can find out in two clicks. Easy!
Tell A Friend?
Why not forward this email to a friend to let them know how to keep on top of the latest houses to go on the market in their area?

What’s the Marketplace About?
Earlier, we went through reporting news that’s important to you and those around you.
Next, we’re going to show you what the Marketplace is all about and why you should care.
Simply put, it’s a place to:
- Earn Extra Income
- Solve Challenges and Get Things Done
Locally Informed Marketplace
The simplest description of the Solution Marketplace, is as a place for you and the people of your community to list tasks and challenges and ask the community to help solve them.
A listing in the Marketplace can take the form of either a Contract or a Contest.
Option 1: Contracts
Think of Contracts as a tendor or request for bids for work that needs doing or something that needs finding. An ideal price is suggested, and people then bid on the work, specifying what they would charge in either Cash, Locally Informed Credits or a combination of both.
Option 2: Contests
A Challenge is posted in the form of a Contest. Who ever comes up with the best Solution wins the specified prize. The prize is either Cash, Locally Informed Credits or a combination of both.
From asking for construction or renovation quotes to asking for some help gardening over the weekend, there’s no Contest or Contract too big or too small.
The right hand column of this email shows you the latest Contests and Contracts in the Marketplace right now.
To get the ball rolling, we’ve given you 100 Credits (Worth $10 NZD). With those 100 credits, you’ll be able to launch your own Contest or Contract for $0.
If you know of someone else who’d be interested, anyone who registers a new account in the next few weeks will also get the 100 Credits.
So how about you? If you have a look through the Marketplace, you’re bound to get an idea for something you’ve got on your plate right now that you could use a hand with.
Finally, because we’d really like to get the Marketplace hopping, if you need a few extra Credits, we’re going to break the bank between now and the end of the week. Get ahold of us if you need a top up of Credits to get your Listing Launched!
